Day Nine: An Israeli Encounter

23 Jun

Today we woke up early in Kiryat Yam and drove with our host families to an elementary school. At the elementary school we had a fun time painting on the pavement with sixth graders that go to the school and speak english. Afterwards, we went to the planetarium at the Alex and Betty Schoenbaum Science, Educational, Cultural and Sports Campus and discussed what life is like for the soldiers in Israel. Then we went into the town of Akko and enjoyed a delicious meal of falafel and salad with the teenagers from the host families. After lunch, we toured through the beautiful city of Akko. The day was hot, but the wind by the beautiful seashore cooled us down. We then split up into groups, and had many adventures walking through the shuk. These included buying interesting clothes, eating ice cream, and learning about many unique foods! Finally, we came back to the host families for a nice Shabbat dinner.
