Smells Like Hanukkah Spirit

It’s that time of year again; amidst the sea of Christmas trees and mistletoe lies a pond of menorahs and dreidels. It’s ok, we’re used to it. We’re used to walking in the mall hearing Jessica Simpson & Mariah Carey sing their renditions of Jingle Bell and Holly Jolly Christmas and we’re used to buying our Hannukah gifts during Christmas sales but who says that WE can’t get into the Hannukah spirit?

Sure, we get 8 nights of Hannukah, but didn’t the Christians create the 25 days of Christmas just so they could get in the holiday spirit sooner? Why can’t we?

I’d like to announce the 18 days of Hannukah! So, this year I hope you started talking about, buying gifts, putting up silver and blue decorations and perfecting your latke recipe on Nov 20th. One of the ways in which we can help get into the Hannukah Spirit is by listening to Hanukah music! It’s usually pretty hokey, but this year not only do we have a “Gleek”s dream – the Maccabeats – but we now also have Jewish Reggae genius Matisyahu who wrote an actually good Hannukah song!

This year my Hannukah wish is that Hannukah Harry brings more cool Hannukah music in the years to come so we don’t just have to listen to Adam Sandler on repeat.

Please enjoy Matisyahu’s “Happy Hannukah”

** By downloading this song on this website, your money goes to Hurricane Sandy relief through the Jewish Federations of North America. Please download and help a family who cannot get into the holiday spirit because they’ve lost their home. **
