We Stand with Israel

15 Nov

The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee stands with the people of Israel.

Israel, like any other country in the world, has the right to self-defense in light of rocket attacks aimed at harming and killing innocent civilians in their homes, schools and hospitals.

For most of us, red is the color of roses, but for almost 13 years, Color Red is the code for danger for one million Israelis living near the Gaza Strip. Color Red means you have 15 seconds to find a secure location before missiles hit.

  • Since this past Saturday, there have been over 120 kassams and mortar attacks on Sha’ar HaNegev and the surrounding region.
  • 27 rockets were intercepted Wednesday, November 14 by the IDF Iron Dome. These rockets would have fallen on densely populated civilian areas.
  • 300 rocket attacks in the past three months and 800 since the beginning of this year.
  • Almost 1.5 million Israel
  • is live within the region where they are required to be within 15 seconds of a bomb shelter.
  • More than 40 Israeli citizens have been injured, home and business destroye
    and schools closed.
  • Hundreds of thousands have been forced into shelters and safe rooms.

In Response:

The IDF launched “Operation Pillar of Defense”

  • A targeted airstrike killing Hamas’s top commander Ahmad Ja’abri (who is responsible for the abduction of Gilad Shalit and other attacks on Israeli citizens)
  • Targeted stock piles of long-range missiles that represented a threat to large sections of Israel as well as launch sites and weapon factories.

“Oseh shalom bimromav, hu ya’aseh shalom aleinu v’al kol Yisrael, v’imru amen,”

“May He who makes peace in His high places make peace upon us and upon all Israel, and let us say amen.”
