Sanctions on Iran…good, bad or indifferent?

3 Apr

Yes, you have all heard about it and are aware of the numerous nations and multinational entities that have been imposing sanctions on Iran in an attempt to stop them from pursing nuclear power.

The sanctions have crossed all spectrums, including international trade and imports to Iran, business and banking investments, oil embargos, restrictions on the sharing of energy and technology, to almost total economic and arms ban.

It goes without saying; a nuclear Iran is a dangerous threat to the entire global community, not justIsrael!  However, what of the sanctions being placed on Iran?  Are they proving to be a successful tool that will stop Iran’s developments, or will they only entice Iran to proceed more rapidly in their nuclear endeavors?  Perhaps the sanctions are doing neither, but are rather insignificant in the grand scheme of things?

Your Federation wants to know what you think!  Are the sanctions being placed on Iran by the international community a positive step towards stopping Iran’s nuclear program, are they only adding more fuel to the fire or does it simply not matter at this point?

Nothing will stop them short of destroying their nuclear facilities.

Without this agreement, Iran can continue any program, nuclear or not, unchecked. What the conversation often ignores is how much we all support Iran economically. And as long as we support Iran, they can do what they want. How do we support Iran, you might ask? Iran’s biggest oil customers are China, EU, Japan, and India. So the plastic case of your electronics, some of your cars, or their tires, or your clothing, all have some material in them that was once Iranian oil or gas. Plus some of the energy needed to make them, and ship them to our ports. So it is far better to have inspectors in Iran, than to pretend to be tough while sending them cash on a daily basis.
